Is This Wrist Computer Actually Saving Your Health Life? (A Swimmer Dad + Dentist’s Honest Review)

I am Dr. Manav Verma. I am a dentist. I love using Apple products. I also like to swim. I am a parent.
I want to tell you about the Apple Watch. This watch is really good for your health. It can even save your life. Not like in a movie. In a way that makes you go to the doctor.
I have been using the Apple Watch since the Series 2. I best because it keeps a check on my health. It has a thing called ECG that checks my heart. It also has fall detection, which’s great for swimmers like my kid.

If you just buy the Apple Watch to close rings you are not using it properly. The real power of the Apple Watch is in the health features.
I will explain how it helps me .
- Practicality: This is my go to Watch all the time. It is very practical for me.
- Actionability: The Apple Watch has made me go to the doctor, which’s a good thing.
- Proof: The Apple Watch is FDA cleared and I have my own ECG results to prove it.

How I Start My Day
When I wake up I do not check my phone. I check my Apple Watch instead. The Apple Watch shows me my sleep stages and my heart rate variability. If my heart rate variability is low I skip my morning workout.

I tell my patients that their body is precious . Please take care of it. The Apple Watch helps me take care of my body.
The Heart Stuff
As a dentist I care about inflammation. Bleeding gums are often sign of a heart problem. So when my Apple indicated that I had a rhythm I went to the doctor.
IT has ECG built in which checks your heart. It can detect AFib, which’s a major stroke risk. It also gives you a PDF that you can show your doctor.
One of my patients ignored his Apple Watch. He had a stroke. The Apple Watch can detect these problems before they happen.

You can buy the Apple Watch Ultra 3 on Amazon if you want.
Fall Detection
I used to think that fall detection was for people. Then I fell off a ladder. My Apple Watch went off. It was loud. It asked me if I needed emergency services.
This feature is great for swimmers like my kid. If something happens to them the Apple Watch can detect it. Call for help.
Mouth. Swimmer’s Health
As a dentist and a swim parent I care about mouth taping. Mouth taping can help you breathe better and sleep better.
Here is a cheat sheet that shows how mouth taping can help you.

- The Problem: Chlorine and heavy breathing can dry out your mouth. Cause cavities.
- The Biohack: If you use Mouth taping it will force you to breathe through your nose, which’s improves your health.
- The Data Loop: The Apple Watch can track your rate. Show you how mouth taping can help you.
- Pro Tip: Use medical-grade silicone tape. Enable Sleep Focus on your Apple Watch.
Featured Ecosystem

Apple ecosystem helps you to get the most out of the Apple Watch.
- The iPhone: The core center of Data. You can open the Health app. See your trends.
- AirPods Pro: These can be used for sound therapy. Can help you sleep better.
- My Favorite Apps: I like to use Athlytic and WaterMinder to track my health.
Battery Life
The battery life of the Apple Watch can be annoying. You can charge it while you are sitting at your desk.
- My solution: Get the Ultra if you can afford it. It lasts longer.
- Strap matters: Get a nylon sport loop if you swim or sweat a lot.

Is It Worth It?
I fix teeth for a living. I have learned that being healthy is not about brushing your teeth twice a day.
It is about getting sleep, which the Apple Watch can track.
It is about managing stress, which the Apple Watch can help you with.
It is about being safe which the Apple Watch can supply.
If you are only buying the Apple Watch to close those rings you are missing the point. The real value is in preventing health problems.
The start of your health journey is being aware of your body. The Apple Watch gives you that awareness. Bad things happening to your health are less likely. This is because you have a device that can call for help when you need it.
For parents like me who have kids that swim getting them an Apple Watch can give you peace of mind.
Do Not Let The Data Stress You Out
One thing. I have seen people get anxious because of their Apple Watch. They see a heart rate and panic which makes it even higher.
Use the data to ask yourself questions, not to worry.
If your heart rate is low ask yourself: Did I drink coffee? Did I have a fight with my wife?
If you are breathing fast while you sleep ask yourself: Did I eat late? Is my stomach upset?
The Apple Watch is the tool we have to track our health. It is not perfect. It is worth it. You can get a device that can save your life for the price of a filling.
Here Is What You Should Do:
- Open your iPhone Health app.
- Set up your Medical ID. Add your blood type, allergies and emergency contacts. This is useless if you do not set it up.
- Switch on Fall Detection by going to the Watch app.
- Focus on Heart rate this week and move on to another feature next week.

Hello I’m Dr. Manav Verma Dental surgeon dedicated to restoring smiles treating teeth and gums and passionately exploring the connection, between oral health and overall bodily wellness.
Truthfully my genuine enthusiasm emerges when I immerse myself in biohacking—combining technology with timeless inner healing and natural energy. That’s the reason I launched my blog, The fusion Biohacker, where I share straightforward practical advice, on enhancing your health without spending a fortune or resorting to pseudoscience.
I’m likewise the father who rises at daybreak by the pool, with a stopwatch measuring my childrens swim laps and preparing recovery snacks as if it were a qualifier (I experiment with all my biohacks on myself initially amidst our hectic routine). When I’m away from the clinic or looking after kids you’ll find me hiking through the mountains to clear my mind jotting down poetry creating art with paint, on canvases journeying wherever the mood leads, singing, crafting tunes late at night or geeking out over designing websites and writing tech blogs.
Life’s too brief to stay in a lane you know? I really enjoy linking all these aspects—wellness, technology, innovation, environment—and spreading whatever truly proves effective.
